'Marie Antionette' wins Oscar for Costume Design!

Last month on Oscar Night I got all dressed up 'South Beach Style' and went to my friend Gene's Oscar party. Gene has fabulous parties but his Oscar parties are my favorite you can enjoy good food and great conversation. He adds a touch of competition when he hands you your Oscar ballot and you have to get down to business selecting who you think is going to win an Oscar. On my ballot I had a few misses and a few hits no real upsets I am happy to say. One of my hits was Marie Antionette for costume design. I truly enjoyed this movie. I visited Versailles a few years ago so it was a exciting for me to so see it all over again in the movie. Aside from the costumes in Marie Antoinette I LOVED the soundtrack. I was given the soundtrack as a gift and thought it would be fun to share one of my favorite songs 'Hong Kong Garden' by Siouxsie & The Banshees.

Francesco Biasia 'Gypsy Rain' Hobo Bag

I have seen this bag live and in color! The Francesco Biasia 'Gypsy Rain' is a chic leather hobo that is completely gorgeous. The color is a rich shade of burnt red-orange. If you are familiar with Balenciaga handbags the color 'Rouille' is what immediately came to mind when I saw this beauty. The leather on this hobo is soft and creamy. My second favorite feature on the 'Gypsy Rain' hobo is the polished silvertone hardware. If you happen to forget your compact mirror you can use the hardware on this bag to touch up your lipgloss. Rafael Cennamo Haute Couture Fall 2007 Funkshion

The Fall 07'Funkshion Shows were fabulous. One of the main featured designers at Funkshion 2007 is Rafael Cennamo(chen-na-mo). Cennamo's 'Haute Couture' Fall/2007 collection is inspired by 50's Glam. Cennamo is known for his special occasion gowns. The gowns are made by him and the embellishments on the gowns are made by hand. The fabrics and colors Cennamo uses in his collections have heavy European influences. These influences are evident in his divine Haute Couture Fall 07' collection.
I enjoyed this collection. The colors used in the suits were chocolates and other soft dark earth tones. The dresses were divine they ranged from a gorgeous deep burgundy (my favorite) to golds. Wrist and elbow length black leather gloves were also part of the dress collections giving a sort of vixen edge to dresses and gowns that I have never seen before.
The designs of the dresses covered what I think every woman should have in her closet, soft and feminine to meet the parents to hardcore black with leather to meet the friends.

Cennamo designs for today's woman, sexy and sophisticated with edge and style.

Last night was the first night of 'Funkshion' Miami Beach. The 'Funkshion' lineup began with Ready to Wear Custo Barcelona Fall 2007. The 'Technicolor' collection featured geometric funky designs, bold graphic prints in bright colors with a splash of urban flair.

Just Cavalli 'Bags Gone Wild'!

I am a huge Just Cavalli fan. The tops are fantastic and the jeans are cool and edgy. However, I am deeply disappointed on the 'Just Cavalli' take on the current animal print on bags trend. I find both the Lace Giraffe print shoulder bag and hobo bag in this collection to be hideous. Thankfully, no giraffes were harmed in making these debacles as they are printed on canvas with grained leather trim. I must say, it seems like alot of thought went into designing these bags with features such as aged brass hardware, leather-trimmed Cavalli logo plate, contoured runching and buckled details on the sides. Even with the awesome design details on these bags, they still can't pass as beach bags. They are just way too scary.

I like the idea of giraffe print on an accessory. I believe that a little animal accent can add just the right touch to an ensemble. In the case of these two bags I am going to have to vote them off the island. Well, at least my island!

Wig Suggestions for Britney Spears!

I am happy to see that Britney is out of rehab and sporting a new look. Her wig reminds me of the wigs used in the 'Atrevate' video by Calle 13. I love that video! I love Calle 13!
I also dicovered an entire 'Wig' world in cyberspace. I am sure we will be seeing Britney rockin' all kinds of wigs in the months to come.

This 'Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork' bag worth $45,000 G's appeared on the runway last fall. The bag is designed by Marc Jacobs and made up of pieces of 15 Vuitton bags. It was reffered to by the British press, as "Frankenstein's monster." As Louis Vuitton releases its latest collection of denim patchwork bags, priced at $3,000-$5,000, talk about this monstrosity is resurfacing. I suspect Marc Jacobs made this mess to give purse bloggers like myself something to talk about while he waited to release a less offensive and more affordable version of this bag. Its all about marketing and keeping us talking about the 'House of Louis Vuitton'. Guess what!? It worked. The picture above is from the front cover of USA today and it has us all talking about it. Even me!!

The bag is just plain boring to me. This bag also has sort of a reptilian look to it. I do love exotics but, not this look or feel. The leather is aged goatskin but, it looks like cheap wallpaper. I recently purchased a 13' Mac Notebook. I've been using PC's all my life so, this switch is a huge deal for me. Since purchasing my new Mac I have been on a mission to find a cool laptop bag. Australian designer, Collete Dinnigan famous among Hollywood celebrities for her lingerie wear. Took a few years off the fashion scene to raise a family. The Fall 2007 collection was her reintroduction to the fashion world.
The entire collection was a complete disappointment. The collection was filled with drab colors and designs that lacked objective.
After reviewing the collection I have to say 'High End' fashion is not what came to mind. This collection was more like American Apparel.

Scarlett 'Front Row' and 'Backstage' at LV 2007 Fall Show

Scarlett Johansson, the fabulous actress in the Louis Vuitton ad campaigns sat front row at the Louis Vuitton Fall 2007 collection fashion show.

Scarlett is currently on a research trip to Holland for her role in 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'. She looks stunning in all Grey and her LV bag is gorgeous!

I imagine she has heaps of LV's by now. Lucky girl!

Lanvin 2007 'Designs that speak to women'

The Lanvin 2007 collection was inspired by thirties wide shouldered gowns with a fresh new richness and splendor. Long sleeve as well as sleeveless dresses were accentuated with beautiful jewels. The luxurious dresses were paired off with techno inspired bold patent leather platform shoes and handbags.

Designer 'Alber Elbaz' seems to understand 'what women want' with these comfortable, wearable and rich designs for fall 2007. A few items caught my fancy, one in particular is the jeweled cuff (bottom image).

MIU MIU 2007 Collection 'Lacks in Sex Appeal'

The MIU MIU collection of 2007 did not fall into the category 'Rockstar' it was more like items out of my grandma's closet that should be smelling like mothballs. The accessories went from knee-hi socks and spectator pumps to somewhat old-ladyish looking handbags.

After the show Miuccia Prada was quoted "It's a vision of what's happening in the world right now with women," "On videos and TV all of the women look fake. I wanted to show this plasticized vision, but filtered through classic pieces and sticking to tradition."

Muiccia did not filter out her plasticized vision through classic pieces. The collection looked cheap to me and not well thought out. I think it's great when a designer decides to create a collection with a vision of society in mind. It should not have looked like pieces taken from a cheap vintage store and just relabeled. I have high expectations for MIU MIU and this collection did not fill the bill. I know that everyone has different opinions and this collection could be considered art by someone else. Some of my friends think that matching your bag with your shoes is a fashion don't. What do they know!? They don't write about purses like I do. HA!

I wholeheartedly disagree.

I consider it one of my personal goals to go against the fashion rules.

I love to match and my 'South Beach' lifestyle permits breaking the rules.

The Marc Jacobs King Pin Strike Bag and Marc Jacobs Patent Pump are a perfect set. Not to be separated. I like the playfulness of cream patent combined with burgundy canvas.

I can just see it now. White tank, tight jeans, D& G shades, and my new MJ bag and shoes!

Some the seasons hot accessories are Clear and some made with PVC. They include handbags, sunglasses, jewelry and shoes. I am not a fan of a clear handbag. I don't want everyone looking at the stuff I carry around inside my bag. I would probably use a bag made out of PVC to carry to the pool or beach, although, I am not likely to spend $95 dollars on a beach bag. I like the use of Lucite in alot of the accessories. Lucite heels on a simple pair of shoes give them a cool retro space age look. Lucite jewelry is probably my favorite clear accessory. Add a bit of clarity to your wardrobe and get yourself a few clear pieces!
